The ruling party Zanu PF won the Bikita west by elections resoundingly in elections held during this weekend.
Cde Beauty Chabaya won the election by a wide margin after polling 13156 votes, while her closest rival, Kudakwashe Gopo of the Zimbabwe People First got just 2453 votes.
Innocent Muzvimbiri (independent) got 725, Murdock Chivasa (National Constitutional Assembly) 343, Terrence Makumbo (Democrats of Zimbabwe Party) 132 votes, and Heya Shoko (independent) 76 votes.
The seat fell vacant after the former legislator, Munyaradzi Kereke was recalled after being convicted and jailed for rape. This comes as a rude awakening to the oppositions parties as 2018 “Harmonized” elections draw close by. Arguably, Zanu PF is still the “people’s choice” as this result has clearly showed that its following still stand by it. Its still a long way though when it comes to presidential elections by we cant and wont pre-empty what Zanu PF have managed so far.
MDC-T and Zimbabwe’s People First should pull their socks and be ready to run as hard as they can. We can only speculate that the way forward for these two parties is to merge which seems to be a far fetched concept at the moment. None the less congratulations to Zanu PF once again
